front axle
Hi, bit of a thick question, but I cant get the front wheel axle tight? It appears the threads bottom out but I can still turn the speedo drive through the fork tang (ie the bottom legs can be sprung apart easliy)
I've got the speedo drive in, and the RH spacer. (wheels newly powdercoated with new bearings, replated axles and spacers)
Am I missing something obvious? or doing something out of sequence??

Well I'm still having trouble with this, had the spindle and wheel out a couple of times, and it's still the same, tried in both directions and still appears to bottom out, and the wheel isnt tight, any other pointers or help please??
all bearings and spacers look to be correct with nothing missing? been through the manual and all looks fine

my guess is , are the bearings the correct ones, and are they fitted correctly.
right bearing pressed in until it bottoms out and then speedo side pressed in gently until there is no free play on the spindal,
if the bearings are fitted correct, and you have the spacer and speedo drive
fitted, it should be fine [is the spacer ok, it has,nt been shortened, has it

I tried it without the wheel, and it seems as though all bolts protrude through perfectly, (each end of the spindle sits just about flush with the fork outer, and just sticks past the inner face by about 1mm)
My suspisions were the bearings too, but they were direct replacements (all fitted correctly, it's the sort of thing I do for work) what are the spec, just standard roller bearings I assume, not thicker jobbies?
I do have a spare bike I could try and swap the spindles over with? but cant see the need, as I only have this one in bits?
BTW it's a KR-1s

Another update before it gets torched took the spindle out my other bike (or more specifically a wreck) and everything measure exactly, or as close as you can without a micrometer. Put both spindles together side by side, and there's no difference, swapped them over and still the same??? (forks spring open, and speedo drive turns)
is everyones the same and it's not been noticed before? highly unlikely I would imagine.
So what next clever people?
This is without the pinch bolts tightened or fitted so far.
Didn't check it before Jan as I just took it apart as you would a restoration project. Nothing looks untoward or machined/filed etc and the bike looked very genuine and original.

Will give that a go I think, got to jack the wreck up, swap speedo drive first, try my refurbed spindle in that. Was always a project to me, all I did was start it then strip it, bearings also hit the bin a while ago, but might have one left?
On nights so will try a wheel swap when I'm day off, and speedo drive looks like the one off the wreck too.
Thanks so far.
