running without battery

Dodgy Kips motor? CDI? battery? diode? reg/rect? its all gobbledygook to me but some people understand it ask tham a question here

the kr1 iv'e just got has no battery but still starts and runs is this normal?

Yes, but the electrics will be a bit dodgy. You can either get a battery from ebay, or a battery eliminator if you want to save weight.
