Can someone help with this one?
Has anyone noticed some rear five spoke wheels are different?

I have two different types:

Type A - One with groove cut to rear of sprocket carrier, streamlined disk holder and smooth single raised centre between spokes

Type B - One with no groove at rear of sprocket, triangular three hole disk holder and twin raised centre between spokes

Seems to be much more than just casting differences to me?
Is it the difference between C1/C2/C3 and respective D1/2 models ?

What's your five spoke rear wheel like A or B?

Thanks

Thanks Jan

Just checked my wheels and Type A say R1247 and Type B say R1272

I'm suspecting Type A is model C1/D1 and Type B is C2/3/D2

Will check part mumbers when I get more time...

Looking at part numbers it suggests that rear wheel with groove was from C1/D1 models (R1247, part 41073-1442) and C2/3/D2 (R1272, part 41073-1479) have no groove.. Of course KHI may just have randomly mixed them up depending upon what was in the parts bin?

Or maybe it's just a feature of Jap Spec import bikes (type A)
and UK spec (type B) ?

I have one of each but when I bought the wheel with the groove, it had been marked Zxr250.

Maybe you have one from the zxr250 too TS?

just been looking at ZXR250 pictures, and I thinck HJowie has a point : they look like the A model and are flat between the spokes.

Following the ZXR250 trail seems to have provided an answer:

First part number for first model ZXR250 A/B is 41073-1442 (Type A)
Image

Part number for ZXR250 C model 1990+ is different and has no groove to rear of sprocket. No match to any of the KR-1S/R models?
Image

Part number for 1989 KR-1S/R models C1/D1 is the same as ZXR250 part number 41073-1442 (Also Type A)

Looks like first models ZXR250 and KR-1S (C1/D1) share the same rear wheel.

Thanks Mr Howie and JanBros
Great when a plan comes together =D>
