Back on the road - hopefully

Post by Garry »

Finally got round to hopefully getting this back on the road

Planning to match a good top end to (what i think) is a good bottom end and then get back in to use - if it doesn't work out will have to have a review of what best to do

I have an old mini that became home to a family of mice.
Didn't notice until I gave it a service - turned out they had got into the air filter box, ate the filter and the car was using the nest as the air cleaner

Hope all goes well getting it back out on the road :D

Wheels - your right Mr Howie
I like the Black wheels too, looking very smart.

If black is cool, green is gay? What's the red C3 wheels? :?
If it takes more than 2strokes then your just playing at it..

It was too cold yesterday to get motivated

I'm not one for throwing money at things so if it's a good runner I will
get the rest it needs - tyres, chain & sprockets, MOT & Tax = if not :-k

I laid it up about 4 years ago as the bottom end never seemed very smooth - even when just kicking it over

The other bottom end i have has only done about 17k so hoping it's okay -
if it's not will have to have a think about what's best to do

Have got everything i need to complete it but need to have a good engine before i do anything else

Put the replacement bottom end in yesterday - the crank bearings seem a lot smoother than the old ones so fingers crossed should be okay

Just hope the seals are okay - should find out later today all being well

Didn't make the progress i wanted today

Couldn't get the one piece top end on for love nor money

After about 2 hours of struggling i finally found out one of the Mitaka pistons i decided to use was oversize ](*,)

Swapped for another and went together in about 5 minutes however too late to do anything else

Have got the engine all back together and connected but have to get some
petrol so start up should be this weekend hopefully

My wife bought me this paddock stand from Aldi for £30 - it doubles as front
or rear so pretty useful - and seems pretty heavy duty

It's amazing what they sell in the weekly / monthly offers at places like Aldi, Lidl and Netto - sometimes though when it's a proper bargain they only have one or two per store and you have to be quick smart to get it.

Looks like a pretty substantial stand on the pic :)
If it takes more than 2strokes then your just playing at it..

Been dragging my heels a bit with this

The stator needed changing also - but fired it up and the engine sounds - good - no knocks, rumbles or rattles :D

Now i know that's okay the rest should be easy - still a lot to do but
have broken the back of it

Should be ready for next year

I am not going over the top with this as i want to use it

However took the swing arm out - repolished the main spars and sprayed the rest silver then lacquered the lot (rattle cans i had in the shed)

I like polished but its hard work so just leaving the footrest hangers and
end cans. I know you loose a bit of shine with lacquer but at least you
can just wash it

Going to lacquer the frame spars further down the line

Regreased the linkages and all feels tight , had a fairly new Hagon shock
on the bike and that has cleaned up like new

New seals for the forks are next and swap bottom yoke for S item

Its only cost £10.00 so far for the base gaskets :D
