I've been looking for an air cooled twinshock enduro for awhile now, and I had a restoration in mind, but I found this impossible to resist.

It is a belter, and the wife has got used to a Suzuki in the houshold

I can remember looking at one of these brand new in Crooks Suzuki in Cumbria, and thinking one day. Well it's taken 32 years but I've got there.

my brother had a brand new pe175 in 1982, he went on several enduros and the family went on to cheer him on, he quit two years later though 'cos he was always getting hurt, had a laugh once when he returned to the paddock after another crunch and i pointed out the bike tyre mark that ran right over his crash helmet!

It's what I settled for when I could,nt afford a PE. It was a great little bike though. Indestructable

That looks brill and loads of fun. Makes me want to get one myself now, but I'll wait till the end of the year, as I have my hands full with my race bike at the moment.

Your right there mate. the brakes are crap. It is a great bike but there must be something I can do to improve the brakes. The rear is OK
but the front is dire.
Still love it though I can't wait to take it for a proper ride

hmm what's your tig welding like? mount a couple of caliper bolt holes on the forks for a caliper and put in a new front wheel? or changing the front forks?
not very practicle is it lol? perhaps converting the front drum to hydraulic?
i know your situation i just bought a old Morris 6 thing weighs nearly 2 tonne and drum brakes all round and no brake booster [-o<

I think It'll be a case of modifying the riding style rather than the brakes. It has to be period for the vinduro events.
I was looking at it next to my 03 Husky WR 250. The husky only develops a wee bit more power, all be it in a far more civilised manner, and is only 4kg lighter than the PE.
The real difference is in the suspension, the frame geometry and by far the biggest difference is the brakes.
Cable drums V Hydraulic discs...............
