KR1S feather weight project.
it certainly looks different to the small pictures i saw on ebay... with my previous knowledge of buying bikes of ebay, i should have expected it, but truth be told, it is kind of what i wanted, a bit higher price than i would have liked i suppose, but oh well, i was after a bike that wasn't loved as i don't want to butcher a nice kr1s... so here she is! warts and all.
aim short term aim is to get it on the road. whilst that is happening, i'll be buying bits and pieces, looking into things, changing things... mucking round with things... the aim is to make the bike as light as possible.

it has post classic racing stickers all over it...
first thing i did was a quick hand wash over certain parts.. i do this with all the bikes i buy... lets you get to know 'whats happening' everywhere... some dodgy wiring it seems!
first thing i did was take those side covers off... yuck, now look 10x better. tried to start it again with dad pushing... no success... dad said one cyclinder was firing, other one wasn't. this wasn't the case when i had it going.... mm

Those exhaust's look in good nick. I reckon if you sold me those silencers that the bike would be lighter!

He hasn't just disconnected the oil pump, the whole system from tank to carbs is gone.
Those wire mesh side covers were tasty, I think I might..... No I won't....
It should run without a battery unless the stator is rooted, this can happen if the 'mechanic' has removed the stator and put it back the wrong way around. This cuts one of the pick up coil wires usually and then it runs when the wires touch....
Start with the basic electrical resistance checks.
I can see the fuel lines under the tank and they do not look pretty, I'd change those out and fit new filters and fresh gas, remember to put the oil in it though.

hi well what can i say about it, the guys tool box must be full of hammers and mole grips and the odd adjustable spanner, but having said that its got its own appeal cheers wayne.

Totally agree Datafunk, this is the ideal project bike, pretty much complete yet in dire need of a bit of.........erm a make over
I'm sure it was Maccas on this forum who was going to extremes to lighten his Kr(?) Sorry but I can't remember the topic it was on, i'm sure Maccas can enlighten you (see what I did there, enlighten, ok I give up).
Just remember though, BHP & lightness isn't enough, aerodynamics is key to a fast bike & it must look good too

after that picked up my dads 1981 xs1100, thing weighs sooo much more haha.

also, i noticed that the build date is 5/90.... with KR250C, so is this definitely a kr1s? or is it just a kr1?
also, note the wear on the underside of the ducktail..... :S i'm guessing he bottomed out a few times?
i'm going to start browsing through the suspension area to see what shocks i should start looking for. already did a quick a browse, more indepth now.
after that picked up my dads 1981 xs1100, thing weighs sooo much more haha.

Yeah, she's a KR1S alright.
The KIPS linkages (along with much of the rest of the bike) look right bodged up mate.
As someone else already said, you'll want to get yourself an airbox, as they don't like those pod style filters.
.............. I think I'll stop there for the moment, as I don't have enough time right now to write down all the things I've noticed in the pics that need to be fixed.
Still looks a good start for a project.

well i got the bike back today.... only thing he thinks i'll need for a roadworthy is a new rear disc... he thinks he might have one that fits, i'll do a quick search, but will probably just get him to put it on, get the bike road worthied then do some proper searching. had a quick ride up and down the street... didn't give it much (didn't give warm up time and no tacho). can't wait to get it on the road legally!
few more parts arrived, woot.
fyi; i just update the first post as to parts i have ordered/got/want (in wants case, i update the parts wanted thread in other section)
so far so good. also might take the tank off and get it sprayed into perfect condition so i chuck the stomp grips on... thinking gary nixon style. (kawasaki green, white stripe with blue edges on the stripe)
