My next project: KR-1s

Post by SP_BOTT »

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any good advise before I start to strip my 1s to bits, I have had it running last week, and all sounds nice, with no rumbling or knocking :) but I did notice lots of smoke coming from the KIPS shaft (if thats what it's called) out of the cylinder head.

I am going to take my time with this, but would really like to have it on the road by the end of this year, but judging by how hard bits are to get hold of, will be more like next year.

This is the bike (the one in this thread) will try and do the pic thing soon.

Thats a good looking bike SP, my advice would be to replace the chain & put some brakes on the front & ride it till it breaks or winter arrives & then do the resto.

Not a lot of help really, sorry

All the best with though =D>

Too late Howie, all the bodyworks and exhaust/hangerslights etc are off and in the garage already, got other project/bike for this year I'm just finishing, sort of getting an early start with this one.

Just an update, been busy building a new shed this year so I can work in comfort and have some much needed space, so the bikes been very much neglected, and has been hidden outside under a sheet most of last, and this year, (or since I got it in reality  ) but I've finally made some progress.

The pics made it out to be much nicer than in real life (as normal) and nearly everything needed attention.

There's been some fantastic restorations on here lately, so I'm going to try and get mine somewhere close to those already on the forum.

A few pics of the progress so far, and what it was like close up

A few of how it's looking now.

Refurbed the forks, and had Philpots do the stantions.

I will get some more pics hosted, as I get them loaded and sorted into some sort of order, probably missed a few bits of the rebuild, so might get edited later.

Thanks all, Pablo, I'm sure I checked the bottom mount, was a while ago it went to coating, and can't remember if I'd seen the thread by then about them cracking.

The engine doesn't look to have been touched from original, but who knows??? I'm definately checking it when installing the engine in case it needs shimming...... anyway tooo late now, time will tell whether it's another stripdown or not???
Oh the stuff on the forks, is just a bit of grease when I slid them in the yokes.

Got the tail end bits on, just got to fit the indicators and make sure the loom is routed properly

Not sure if the 'green' is the earlier or later colour after reading an earlier thread on here, that mentioned the shade was changed a few years ago? any way to check, or just wait 'til the bodywork is fitted??

I've got a brand new set of Alpha 10's ready to fit in the correct sizes, but suppose that will have to wait now, not sure when my local bike shop is open this time of year, might just fit 'one side' to protect the wheels, as I've never managed to fit tyres easily whenever I've had a go
