Finally made some progress. Bike is up and running again. Settled on about 1mm squish for now with ports lowered by about 0.5mm. So main exhaust and subs 27mm from top of cylinder. Transfers 39mm from top. Head volume approx 10.5cc.

Runs nice and sounds well. I've fitted an oversize rad too.

I'll update properly tomorrow.

Hi Dan
That looks great 8)
What rad are you using and does it fit in the standard fairing ?
Cheers
Bernie :D

By gum! Just seen how long ago it was since I made an update on this thread!

Well the KR is taxed and tested and insured and has been since August. Annoyingly the stator packed in so the bike started to run like crap with the Zeeltronic on. A duff battery didn't help here either. With a decent battery the bike was going far better than it ever has in the past for me. The porting and compression ratio changes I have made seem to have woken it up a bit. Pulls very strong from 6k up now and upto about 11700 on the tacho. I just have a standard KR1S ignition curve loaded at the moment. Aiming to get it on the dyno sometime soon to finalise the jetting and ignition curve for the new set up.

I took the bike to Cadwell in August last year but the bike wouldn't rev :-(. My good battery went pop prior to the trackday (I forgot to take it off charge) so I stuck a random one on it and the crap running was the result. Tried to use the bike for 2 sessions but it wasn't having it unfortunately.

I'll put the new stator on and get a new battery sorted then it will be out to play.

If you're heading to Squires at any point I might bump into you there.. If this weather holds out I won't be able to resist a ride out :-)

I certainly will be at some point. Potentially some time around easter as I'm doing a trackday on the 15th of april at cadwell.

I used to go there regularly whenever I was home.

are you sure there is enough clearance between the rad and the front fender/tire ?
drop the forks in the yokes by the amount of suspension travel, and there should be minimum 3cm clearance. forks (especialy right-side-up) bend a lot under heavy braking.

just look at the diffeence between the way Bernie mounted it , and yours :

new rad is twice as thick as an original, and you mounted it at the same location. I'm 99% sure it won't be ok !

Hi Jan,

I used the air scoops on the upper fairing as a guide to make sure it was no further forward than the standard rad, but it did mean that the standard brackets were no use. I placed a thick sheet of polystyrene on the rad and pushed the top fairing into place to see where the rad needed to be.
Image
Then I played about with the brackets to centralise it, as it is shorter (height) than the standard rad.

I am pleased with how it looks now :)

I'll check it when i'm next home. Its only 10mm or so closer than a standard rad would be. The standard rad has the stoneguard on remember.

Dan,

you may be right, maybe the photo is deceiving.

I see now that the holder for the lower fairing is sticking out. if that's original, you'll be fine I guess.

Long long time no update on this.

Finally got my PhD finished so now beginning to look at careers etc.

The KR hasn't been used since August 2014 when I went to Cadwell on it. I really enjoyed riding it around there so I think I'm going to turn it into a track bike and sell all the road stuff off. I just don't enjoy riding on the road like I used to and I've got a GPZ 500 for that anyway.

So when the time comes I'll be listing various bits for sale on here to fund a fibreglass race fairing.

Until next time!
