Time for some tlc on mine

Doing a freshen up on mine after it nipped a piston and I left it in the back of the shed for 3 years. Making time now and I'm in a better place and orgaised. So will be rebuilding with pistons from Shaun I think. Barrels from Alex Hutchinson. Carburettors and airbox going back standard with standard 1s expansion Chambers but gutted and rewelded. Rebuilt the brakes and respray the wheels white with 2k clear on top. The colour impregnated fibreglass fairing is crazed in a few areas but cloistermans in Swindon have a exact match and I've used it before. Hope you're all well, all the best Fred

I've got the head and barrels off and I think from memory I syringed as much hydraulic oil as I could get up the exhaust spigots to fill the crank air space before I laid it up. Drained it off and no condensation has hit the crank.

Millennial bargain or what!

Good luck with build...

In the parts cleaner today. Cranks good. The plating on the old barrels had gone it seems (never worth using questionable quality barrels) really want to sort the play out on the kips valves, possibly make some phosphor bronze inserts or something. I will do some research.

At least I can get these gutted pipes welded up ready

Keep up the good work Fred.
We will all be watching for updates.
I thought you might be doing yourself a nice set of stainless steel pipes?
Cheers

I always think "hugh :?: " when I see a head gaskett.

Not once I have assembled a KR engine with one. Still can't think of any reason why anyone wouldn't O-ring there head or cylinders

I would imagine cost is a big consideration Jan.

You can re-use standard head gaskets if you want to - have done this numerous times.

Bit more done. Sacrificed a puller but the center had knackered threads so will make a spare flywheel out of the good outer re riveted to a good inner
Image
Squish set. New stator and flywheel fitted and exhaust studs fitted. Has anyone repaired worn kips valve stems with metal filler like what you use on your crankcases?

Looking good Fred, I don't recall anyone posting about repairing wear on valve stems but I don't see why it couldn't be done. The double lipped seals have quite a bit of contact with the stems.
