I have taken the decision after the diasterous Brands track day to make the migration to Cadwell on the 16th.
Long way from the sunny south though :(
A bit outside my comfort zone.

Anyway deck heights matched, squish reduced and re-angled, new gaskets on order and ready to go. Hopefully it should hold together this time, just pray its gonna be dry [-o<

Oh, I forgot to say, I am in the fast group (thats all they had left) and what gearing is good for Cadwell?
I currently have 14 and 15 tooth front sprockets and 43, 43 and 44 rears and also have a 17" rear wheel.

!4/44 worked well for Brands though

According to my list for a standard box I have 15-45 listed but it's been a long time since I've used a standard gearbox so that could be wrong.

Its a great track, have you been there before?

yeah, I have been twice first time on a KR1, second time on a TZR250 (on the club circuit) a long time ago though and can't remember the gearing.

I understand the "squish" & I take it "deck height's" mean the top of the cylinders are at the same height from the crankcase, but I cannot fathom out the "re-angled" bit :-k could someone explain in basic term's what this involves/means.

The angle should be a degree or so more than a tanget to the radius of the piston, This is to force unburnt mixture into the centre of the cylinder. IIRC the radius of the standard piston is 120mm.
after recessing the squish band by 0.2mm into the head to get the correct clearance, the squish band was cut using the formula above

So can this only be done by machining I.E. sending away to specialised tuner?

Any machine shop should be able to do it for you its not a hard job. The hard bit is knowing what you need to have machined in the first place. You will also have to check to ensure the cc of the combustion chamber is correct for the fuel you are running. the squish band should be about 7mm wide. about 25% of the diameter of the cylinder (7mm on each side of the dia).

Right got to travel back on the day before this trackday from Northwich (near oulton park) and back there the night after the trackday, so I might camp over on the night before. Anyone else planning on stopping over before the trackday?

just took my KR out for a test today in preparation for cadwell. Done a bit of work on it since the last track day (skimmed the cylinders, tighter squish, matched the cylinders to the crank case and did my best to line up the powervalves and changed the gearing, 14-43).
Must say, that it seems to rev out all the way to 12k (indicated), where as before, it kind of stopped at 11.5k and it was no slouch then! Got a new ZXR400L front wheel with wet, and have an RGV rear on the way which i hope to get modified for the rear wet.
Its going to be a long trip so will probably drive up the night before and camp. Does cadwell have pit garages?

Errr it has tarmac and grass  No pit garages or power hook ups I'm afraid but it has the best track in the country to make up for it. Camping is a fiver for the night. I'm planning to camp over so if you want, lets meet up and share a couple of beers?

I think MJ is camping over the night before so we can get all three KR's together.

Well looks like I'll be up on the Monday as well, either with my bike on the back of Salty's trailer or in the back of a works van. Either way I'm looking forward to testing out the revamped front brakes, and thrashing the guts out of the old girl cause after her performance at Oulton I think she own's me one.

For the first time in ages I had a two week break from working away etc. where I spent most of the time working from home writing reports etc. which allowed me to balance my work/bike relationship and I (ATM) no longer have anything on my bike "to-do" list. My wife on the other hand still has a very long "my husband will do list"

Looking forward to seeing you all there.
