Single seat converter

Post by Red Devil 777 »

As we know these are nla and apparently the mould was lost/destroyed.
Anyway, I was off work today and bored, so thought I'd have a play around making one. Now please bare in mind there is a long way to go on this but I've got the basic shape something like using an original base and laminations of styrene sheet plus lots of body filler

Now, it could be ages happening, but do you think if I can get it something like it would be worthwhile me making a mould to do a few of these?
Bloody hell, that photo isn't very forgiving. I've still got quite a bit to do on it yet but it doesn't seem that bad!

The best bit is, my KR has a single seat unit anyway, and I was going to do the same on my project, suppose I'd better use a kwak rear pod

Looking a bit more like now, still a bit of rubbing down to do in places but the basic shape and form are now pretty much as I want them. I could do with trying it on a standard bike to check fit etc. Any volunteers? Anyone know anything about moulds and casting?

To make the mould you cover your cover in release agent then put the fibreglass over it quite thick compared to the final cover, leave it to set then remove it from the original. Then you can use this to make the fibreglass seats.

to make a mould from what you have done is very simple for the best results have it sprayed in 2k paint for a perfect finish then give it 3-5 coats of bees wax polish buffing to a shiney finish between coats then lay your gell coat then finish with 5-6 layers of f/glass
hope this helps

Would do but not close enough-Huddersfield :)

What about using rtv silicone mould making rubber?

Like this stuff

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RTV-Silicone-Moul ... dZViewItem

Would that be any use or would it be a waste of time?

Thanks for the offer, but would like to have a go at the mould myself.
The last time Liverpool Fc won the league, George Michael was black and Michael Jackson was straight or visa versa, it's that long ago I get confused.

Had half a rattle can of kwak green left so thought I'd give it a quick spray to see how it might look. Still needs some minor rubbing down and want to check it on a bike for fit etc.

Nowt spesh, just heat can in boiling water to get propellent working better, then I used a bit of g4 rubbing compound when dry and buffed it up with my £10 lidl battery buffer

not bad mate, not bad at all. there could be a market for a single seat cover, with a perfect colour match[that combined with some alloy brackets to remove the passenger pegs] , for that race look
