Well ive done it gone and got myself another...

KR1 engine in a S chassis.

Image
pretty much complete but in bits apart from the chassis
Image

also got this KR1 Frame which has been powder coated but im not sure what im going to do with this, as i dont this 1S running gear fits in easily???

this is going te definately be a long term project as i not flush with cash atm.

Job to do:
1) see if the motor starts, it was last run back in march and appears to have good compression, run the motor and then access if it requires any more addition work other than a top end refresh.

2) replace various bearing etc
3) Rechrome the forks
4)sort cosmetics, this is a low priority atm.....

so excited \:D/
Progress Update
23/09/2007

Engine runs!!!!
after kicking it over for a bit and not appearing to get a spark drafted my old man in to help, and checked loom over and the like cleaned the connectors on the coils and got a more visible spark :) reconnected few more kicks and it coughs into life..... tried again and all seems well didnt run it for long as not got the rad connected.
so now i know the motor at least starts can crack on with the rest
apologies to the neighbours for unslienced stroker in running in the drive LOL

update 01/10/2007
bike is pretty much a rolling chassis :D
suspension is in good order which is a bonus as well
only slight mishap so far is me taking a large chunk of my thumb off so a bit cack handed atm
with the motor out etc the bike looks rather mean and weighs nothing LOL
next job is to remove the wheels and suspension and get the swinger frame and wheels either powder coated or anodised black.
this should go with the Green & Black paint that i want to put on the finished bike.
Having looked at the condition of the bodywork looks like i will be going for an ARD fairing and using the single seat i have.

UPDATED 04/01/2008
made alot of progress just after xmas and new year due to having a cold.
so from the above pics to this:
Image

then this from 2 nights ago ready to go to the powdercoaters
so excited. Came apart nice and easily which was a bonus and not too much swearing, its at this point that looking at ebay is dangerous if any trick bits appear [-o<
Image

also must make a start on thos cases of Becks

Going for black frame swingarm and wheels, cant wait till it arrives back .

UPDATE 29/01/2008
got all my parts back from powder coat please with the results :D
thanks to A1 powdercoaters in Southampton top work as usual =D>

bit of a crappy pic but you get the idea
Image
going to be measuring bearings and the like this weekend what fun :)
so hopefully depending on £££ get a rolling chassis assembled (with some help, better buy some more T then lol )

UPDATE 09/02/2008
not alot to say
swingarm bearings sleeves etc arrived :D
order with BRT placed so should have those by next week.

UPDATE 28/02/2008
another small update (for completeness :D )
all bearings recieved and ready to go in, so i have set about cleaning and polishing various bits. see last post in thread for achievement today =D>

you obviously never got over the bug :)

looks a good starting point

i think the only bit you can't change is the swing arm - front ends
change ok as far as i know as long as you change everything

KR1s wheel fits in KR1 swing arm - straight swap

yeah tis a good start point.

hmm might be worth trying to source a KR1 swing arm and use the KR1 frame

thanks for the tip
:D

going to see if it fires up tommorrow :?:

on a different note a need to decide on a colour scheme so i can send the wheels off, as after speaking to my chief consipratory i need to get the chassis sorted 1st.

any thoughts or can some 1 post pics of the colour schemes that were used.
although i was thinking of a KR1R rep paint job???

im pretty sure the kr1 chassis has a sharper head angle although only just, my kr1 has a kr1s swing arm fitted but i think some sort of machining was required though nothing too complex. i will investigate when i pull it apart. that looks like an exel;lent start for a nice project, welcome back!

You can machine the KR1 swingarm pivot to accept the KR1S spindle and swingarm.
Not hard to do

The easiest colour for wheels is matt black - then you dont have to keep cleaning brake dust out of all the Nooks and crannies! and they match nost paint jobs - if matt is a bit too rat look how about satin black?
Cheers

managed to win a KIPS valve off ebay today for the motor as it was going cheap.

still need a definative answer if the KIPS valves are interchangeable between the KR1 & S.

are they different because of the porting differences in the head, going to post a pic when it arrives to see what you guys think

KR1 and KR1S Valves are interchangable. The 1 has a smaller port than the 1S.
