This is my project.
A 1988 ZR1-B serial 003196
Rescued from the breakers with a ton of parts missing
A work in progress. Currently rebuilding the front end.
Bearing cleaned and greased, fork oil, brake calipers cleaned and oringed.
I hate polishing. Guess it has to be done.
Before and after.

But it's worth it.
Don't polish every thing however, some over do it.

Now you say that......after I've removed every casting parting line?
Oh well.... I shall console my pedantic self with the notion that the part is stronger without the stress inclusion.
Oh yeah.....and my CDI showed up in the mail.

More photos......
Are the pipes in good condition?
Did you get KR1, KR1S or others?
Don't take any notice of people telling you not to polish.......
My therapist says it is good

Love your polished frame! It's not polished til you can see yourself lol.
I went with the S pipes. They are actually in very nice shape except for the silencers.
The silencers aren't too bad but will probably get rebuilt at some point.

Seems like every bracket is bent and every fairing panel has some issue....

I think most KR owners could qualify for a vocational qualification in plastic welding
It just takes time

With a little bit of practice, it's quiet a smoothing pastime. If you wear a mask.

I guess there are 3 options:
Repair the old fairings.
Replace the busted ones with a vintage fairing like a cotton, peel or dunstall type
Go naked!

Bit difficult in Australia. There are race ones....not a lot of street options.

Nice article by Tambo in the bodywork section above. Also some good stuff on the net for plastic welding

I'd love to fix it. It's not difficult as I've successfully repaired other plastics.
It's just missing several chunks.
James P is still waiting for his answer to his "bodywork in Australia" question.
I'm leaning toward something vintage.

The Show & Go web-site lists fibreglass fairing pieces for KR1/1S. I traded messages with them (initially regarding parts from their wrecking stock) a few times and in my most recent message asked a few definite questions about the price and availability of KR1/1S fibreglass bodywork. I never received another message from them...

. I can only assume they aren't too interested in supplying such items. However, do let us know if you have any luck!

James
