I'd be very very surprised if that is down to the CDI.

I have 3 broken ones on my attic , and they all do the same thing : absolutly nothing ignition-wise, only thing they do is open en close the valves when you turn the ignition on.
one was fried from a faulty regulator, so was the second, because when I putted it in (couple weeks later), I'd forgotten I hadn't taken out the faulty regulator out

third one came with a box of spares, but does exactly the same thing.

Before spending lot's of time on looking for a problem, try a known good stator first. If the ignition does things you can't understand, you can bet your ass it's the stator. Even when everything appears to be fine ... :? (like resistance of widings on the stator is ok, and you have a nice spark when the plug is out, it still doesn't mean the stator is ok when it needs to do it's job in a running vibrating bike).

My Kr1s had the exactly the same symptoms as yours, turned out to be bad coil.

would a faulty stator fry the tacho?

Normally, no as the rec/reg controlls the voltage output, and in doing so protects the rest of the electricals. Also, when the stator fails, it would be expected to drop in output, resulting in poor/unreliable spark.
It is of course possible that the tacho just coincidentally died of old age around the same time as the stator has failed.
Cooked CDI's have been known to still work in a very limited capacity (depending on what components inside it have been damaged and how badly). Even just for the purposes of ruling things out, swapping out the rec/reg and CDI unit with a pair of known good items is much easier than swapping the stator.

Good advice thanks guys, I just need then to find a good stator if anyone could help ? I have a decent rec/reg on its way from Martin, thought i may as well get one as well. So really I'm thinking then to swap out the stator/CDi unit and guessing things should be ok !?
It's probably not as simple as that though huh? Should I be checking/doing anything else ? Fearing I sound a pleb I am not very clever on the electric side of things.

as Scotta says : it's best to change the easiest parts first, so begin with the coil , then CDI and then stator.

a multi-meter also comes in handy, to check out the loom. While doing that, always "wiggle" (?) with it, to check bad connections/broken wires.

Thanks guys , turns out it was the CDi Unit

Good to know youve found the poblem KFOR.
Have you checked your charge voltage yet?
