Re: Final KR Based Race Bike Project

As I'm taking a break from the airbox, I thought I would make a start on the flywheel and pickups.

I am using a KX125 flywheel, which I have had the taper machined to suit the KR crank.

I've stuck a barrel and piston on, to find TDC using a DTI and put a paper protractor on the face of the flywheel back plate, so I can see how many degrees I'm rotating the crank, poitioning it all at 0 degrees TDC on the left cylinder.

Image

I then back the crank up 35 degrees BTDC and mark out the rough positions of where the pickups will be in the back plate. By Conincidence, it looks like the front of the lobe lines up with the mark on the back plate.

Image

Because the flywheel is much smaller, it sits further away from the back plate, so I will need to weld some mounting tabs on, so the pickups can be secured in position.

Thought it was interesting to compare it to a standard flywheel.

Ben,

So what static angle figure are you aiming for? I'd want a bit more than 35 degrees from TDC to the front of the lobe on the flywheel personally!

For reference, a 3xv is 64-5 degrees. Standard KR1S is 44.4 degrees. Not sure what an RGV is, maybe 44 ish at a guess?

Borut said to go 35°-40° Shall I go to 40° then?

If Borut says 35-40 then that will be fine Ben. He knows what he's doing, i just wondered where the 35 figure had come from that was all :-)

I've welded two riser plates to mount the pickups on and drilled and tapped them. I went to 37° BTDC in the end, as a middle ground from what Borut advised.

I'm currently waiting for parts to be delivered or made, so everything is a bit boring at the moment.

I've fitted the coils to the plate under the rectifier where the standard one is mounted.

Also been working on the fairing. There was an air scoop in the nose cone I wanted to blank off.
I've cut it out and layed some fibreglass on the inside.

My tacho has arrived today. I've gone for a Koso RX2NR with temperature sensor, two stage variable shift light and variable temperature warning.
