Really pleased your doing an AR Toot - they are a lot rarer than the RD's and not many good 125s around !

I was only asked a few weeks ago by a magazine looking at classic refurbs for an AR - take plenty of pics ... It will be great to see it all coming together

The plastics can be repaired in the same way as the KR. I would avoid the fibreglass headlight units knocking around as the inner fairing never seems to fit properly.

The belly pan always seems to crack where the sides extend up over the rad and either side of the lower mounting holes. Side panels suffer from broken lugs etc. Rear tail flap hinges snap and the cross member above the rear light cracks. No real surprises really... Typical old plastics

For that money you would expect a standard fairing,at least i would.

Yeah, and when I read an ad saying "fully restored" I don't want to see rusty looking bolts and fittings.

I suppose it dosn't actually say WHEN the bike was restored, but still....

I have been on the search for parts and not done a lot to the bike yet but finally got on with some work today.

Started to strip the motor as far as i could until i get the fly wheel puller tomorrow.
Piston does not look good. bottom ring had about a third missing from it and a small chunk from the piston itself.

I need advice on the bore. It's not bad for scoring but looks like a port has been badly damaged at some point. Is this still usable ?

a replating service will salvage that bore with weld and replate (£135)

however it looks like a small port to begin with I would just dremel it out to the size of a KR-1 - hopefully that will make the port larger than the existing damage (youll have to determine if the top and bottom height of the port is not beyond limits, and if the scoring will clean up with light hone)

The barrel is cast iron and has no separate steel liner so its not the easiest to weld and replate.. Probably just as easy to rebore (assuming its not had it done before)

You can widen the exhaust port both sides, clean up the bottom edge and raise the top edge.

If its a standard AR125 barrel it should measure 29mm from top of exhaust port to top of head. The UK derestricted head is 27mm. You can go safely to 25mm without having to do major surgery.

Looks like on this basis you may just get away with cleaning up the port.

... Of course if your doing that.. You could clean and polish all the ports and match to the cases, sort the head ,disk valve etc - keep it looking standard on the road with 25-30hp (keeping good torque) and shock all the newer 125 owners ..
