Dyno nr Bedford

Post by mj43 »

Went down to http://www.krazy-katt.com/contacts.htm
to run the standard KR and whilst I was there ran the race bike.

James has a very neat DynaPro setup (Mark Dent & Co) including gas analyser.

Mark D always says his dynos read the same - my bike gave 62 at Snett in July and made the same on James.

If you are running a ring-a-ding and you have modified it, it is worth getting your jetting checked - midrange as well as top end.

Curves stock v my race bike

Image

Just 'cos it makes 62 don't dismiss it - that is different dynos - talk to Mark Dent.

Remember even at 62hp this KR eats virtually all 400's and has yet to meet a proddy 250 that is faster on the day.

How come your race bike doesn't make more revs than 11.000 ?

my tuned engine (by Heiden Tuning in Holland, who has won the dutch championship with the same specs) makes about 72-73 BHP at the crank, and revs without problems tot 12.000 and even beyond (but I stop at 12)

mine also has that dip just before 6500, but gives an extra boost at 10.000 and keeps going. only downside is I have to run with octanebooster, 'cause otherwise it starts to detonate.

I'd post a gragh if I had one, but since I'm running a standard engine at the moment 'cause one of my cylinders need replating, I can't take it to the dyno :(

The tacho on the bike shows between 1000 and 1500 rpm higher than the dyno.

On the track the bike pulls to 12000, depends on the day sometime revs beyond sometimes a little less.

Whether a bike makes 60 or 70 or even 80 doesn't count for anything unless they are measured on the same dyno. The dynos do differ.

In terms of power on the Dyno Pro mine seems to make about 62hp - a top ZXR400 made 69. Mine makes more torque the 400 makes the power through revs 14000 for peak power.

dont they say you should allow about 10% adjustment between crank and rear wheel?
if so that puts yours at around the same figure as marks.

Is the 12,000 on the tacho or off the dyno?
On compression my engine runs 50/50 but the compression is so low I think I could probably run one of the high octane pump fuels.
In creasing the compression to make the best use of 50/50 or straight avgas wouls add between 2 and 4hp across the rev range. It would also mean that bits would break more often. The engines once tuned are pretty much on the limit structurally :(

Is that Heiden Tuning in Amersfort Holland?
Search didn't find any mention of KR1S?

12,000 on the tacho is about 10,500 ~ 10,750 rpm actual.

yep, in Woudenburg near Amersfoort.

He's real speciality is working on Yam's XS650. it's been almost 10 years now since I went overthere, but in those days he made also lot's off Kawa-specials and prepared lot's off Kawa-racebikes. but looks like he quited his racing-activities :?

in 1992 he's KR-1S was dutch champion, and in '93 and '94, he's ZXR400's were Dutch champion SS400.

he showed me lot's off dyno's of KR's he had prepared, and all the full-spec's had about 72-73 BHP at the crank

if you want spec's from my engine (to compare to yours  ), let me know and I'll try to measure them up .

It would be interesting to know the exhaust port and kips heights.

My Kips ports are set at 26mm - 20mm wide
Exhaust 28mm - standard width
Transfers (T1) Front 39mm - 22mm wide
Transfers (T2) Rear 39mm - 21mm wide
Boost 39.5mm

The angle of entry of T2 has been changed

The partition between T1 and T2 has been thinned
