cylinder replating

Post by moltenmaniac »

had the head off to fix up powervalves yesterday and noticed a hole in the cylinder lining, bout 1.5mm round and probly less than .5mm deep, so at least i caught it before it did major damage. has anybody replated cylinders? if so how much? and i was also wondering if i could get it bored so that it would take other pistons (kx ones are lots cheaper i think) anyone know if this has/can be done?

bores

The hole in your bore plating may have been there from new. they some times get very small air bubbles in the plating, I can't see that it would cause any harm.

The nicasil plating normaly wears out at top of the cyclinder first unless its been seized. In uk it would probably cost about £120 +P&P per barrel if it didn't need welding for major damage.

Haven't heard much about boring out to other sizes but I wouldn't make much size increase as it weakens barrel and therefore reduced reliability.
