150 tyre on a Kr-1s
Is it worth fitting a 150 tyre instead of a 140?
I think it fits ok and I'm sure it would look better but I don't want to spoil the handling, I quite like the 'falls on its side' way it turns in and don't want to make it slower steering.
Any thoughts?
Mike

I'm running a 160 rear on a 5" rim with a 120 on a 3.5" front and it stills falls into the corner. Its a matter of getting the balance between the two right. On my old ZX10R I fitted a 180 rear instead of the standard 190 to get it to turn quicker

The KR1 has narrower rims than the KR1S, so No. Going up or down 1 tyre size is OK but not two as the tyre will be pinched and the profile changed completly. If you wanted to us a 150 then I would either fit a set of 1S running gear, and/or an RGV 17" rear wheelMatty21 wrote:So say i decide to run bt 090's on my KR1 would that work? its a 1989 model.
The 090 is 150/60 18 is it? or is it the bt 92? hmm anyway.
would it work and help in any way? would i need to make any mods?

1s running gear its a straight swap you will need 1s rear wheel, and a complete front end (forks, calipers, discs, wheel, speedo drive) this will all just bolt straight on.Matty21 wrote:which conversion is easiest and cheapest elf?
Having said that the RGV conversion opens up a wider choice of tyres, but I have never liked the swept spoke design of the RGV wheel - thats just my opinion though. You will also need to get some spacers made up to get the rgv wheel to fit.
I have been watching SV wheels on ebay recently as they are a straight spoke design (almost exactly the same as the KR-1) and are 17x4.5 but I keep getting outbid, when I find one cheap enough I will have a go at fitting that.
Cheers

Mike, I've tried this 2 or 3 times in the past for "road use" & never been happy. It has always compromised something else, or just changed the FEEL of the bike .............PS I might still take you up on that AA offer, One day. Alan

Yep I can understand that as it takes a bit of effort to find an ideal setup on the geometry. KR's have ground clearance problems anyway and it took me quite a few attempts to find a setup that worked well.alanw wrote:Mike, I've tried this 2 or 3 times in the past for "road use" & never been happy. had a look at them to in the past, but dropped the idea because the total wheel + sprocketcarrier was too wide (won't fit the KR-swing arm).alimorg wrote:I have been watching SV wheels on ebay recently as they are a straight spoke design (almost exactly the same as the KR-1) and are 17x4.5 but I keep getting outbid, when I find one cheap enough I will have a go at fitting that.
in my KR1-SV there is a Bandit 400 rear wheel fitted : fit's with only needing new spacers you also need the disc and complete rear brake, or you have to find a smaller disc that fit's the wheel.
downside is it's only a 4.00, but I've got a Michelin Pilot Power 160/60 on it and it looks ok. (see my topic for pictures )
