RHS hotter than LHS

Post by nate »

Hey all,

Many thanks for all the comments on the Carb set up... My carbs are luvly Jubbly now...

Handy hints are

1) Coke Cola - Makes for a fantastic Varnish remover... Just soak all your bits in Coke for a few hours and they clean up really nice

2) Air line helps blow everything out

3) Take your time and work in a clean environment

Anyhow, my question now is....

My RHS cylinder seems to warm up a lot quicker than my LHS... tempreture difference is noticeable right the way up to the cans...

Now, same idle jets, same leaness of mix, same plugs etc...

Anyone any ideas? or is it just the way it is?

cheers

Think you might find its your carb balance Have you set the tickover as per the manual Think you set one carb tickover first then balance the other one up to the same speed. Then again i'm no expert i,m sure someone else might have another explanation.

Could be a few other things a swell as the carbs. A internal water leak into the cylinders/cases, a intermittent spark caused by a failing HT lead or plug.

ooooh I prefer Flutes idea  Sounds a lot less expensive [-o<

Will check the carb tick over adjustments tomorrow...

Elf, cheers bud... Luckily I replaced plugs and HT side when I rebuilt it... So possibly a coolant leak but the oil is clear and no loss of fluid...

Need to start stripping down the spare engine anyway, so will check that one!!!

Thanks

Start the bike from cold, allow it to run on idle, keep feeling the temp of the exhausts. Hold the bit where the stingers exit the expansion chamber, if one side warms quicker then i would say it's carb balance. Adjust the idle stop screws until they are both even.
Crude, but it works!

I think MJ found out that the coolant flow to the RHS was not as good as the LHS due to the design of the coolant feed, might be worth considering this as well.

cheers Jiffi,

The tick over adjustment cured it... I just forgot to do it and so tweaked the RHS carb up to get the idle right ](*,)

good thinking though.... so I might have it running a little more on the LHS side as the temp's are even.... Next time the carbs come of I will have a nose at the idle adjustment and report back :)
