Modifying KR1 pipes?????
I've been looking at my KR1 Project race-bike, and was wondering if anyone had ever tried to modify the stock KR1 pipes...
I've only been able to look at pics of the 1S pipes, but the only real difference I've noticed is that the chamber seems to taper off more sharply, and the pipe back to the silencer seems a lot thinner. Can anyone confirm this?
What I've been thinking, is that I could cut off the pipe from the end of the chamber, then make 4 narrow V shaped cuts length ways along the tapered section so it could be re-shaped to resemble the 1S one. That would also allow it to mate up with a narrower pipe going to a new flange to bolt the silencer to.
Any one tried to do this b4?
I know that I should be able perform the mods easily enough, I'm more concerned about whether it would help with HP or be a big waste of time and MIG wire...
Ideas...............

KR1's arnt very common over here in Australia, and I think myself lucky to have picked up the one I now have, hence why I posed the question.
I'm hopeing to be able to modify them to perhaps perform a bit closer to the 1S items.
I don't really want to spend a fortune on aftermarket pipes yet, as it's going to cost me enough just to do the engine (pistons, barrels, head and power valves) and front end (zxr400 conversion).

Believe me, I'd love to just fit some 1S pipes, but as I said before, they're so uncommon over here that they may as well not exist. I've seen more Tandem Twins on the road than KR1's!frog32 wrote:what garry said junk the kr1 pipes and gt some s ones on
Elf- If it costs less than 30 quid to send them over, I'd almost take em. You wouldn't happen to have maybe a pair of barrels (or just the r/h one), a head and power valves for a 1 for sale cheap to make it all worth posting? [-o< lol

sold all my 1 parts ages ago. sorry Mate. Plus you don't want to even guess at the postage cost to Aus from here. I'll be atleast a £100.

I kind of thought as much.
Have a mate trying to source some parts localy, but what I cant replace, I'll have to try and repair and/or improve.
Oh well,..... I've always enjoyed a bit of a challenge.

Where are you Scott ? What state ?
Hang in there and keep looking . You will find a set of "s " pipes around .
I got a set from SA posted for 250 bucks .
Like the way you are thinking about the KR-1 pipes tho , have thought about that myself .
Drop me a line and we can keep our down under types informed . It would be great to see another KR at a track some time .

Can't say it's pretty, but it may be possible to do better.

I'm in Boronia (eastern suburbs of Melbourne). If you see an all white KR250 Tandem Twin on the road in about a month or so, that'll probably be me.
It'll be a while before my KR1 hits the track as I still need quite a few parts just to get the damn thing running again (don't have a spare R/H barrel and powervalve do ya? lol).
So far parts havn't been easy to find, so if you know any good sources that'd really help me out a lot.
Cheers mate,
Scott
