EBC Front Discs Issue

Post by headcoats »

Having a bit of a mare with my new EBC front brake discs for the KR1S models

I'm ordering them through an online company but the issue seems to be with the factory

The discs product code is MD008X

First lot I had , the disc centres were 2 different shades of gold, so had to go back

Second issue when the replacements arrived , it looked like the one disc hadn't been finished correctly

The good one had been ground down with a cross hatch pattern (a bit like honing) and that measured 4.95mm thick

The other one didn't have the cross hatch pattern and looked smooth and it also had oily residue on the rotor surface
This measured 5.17mm thick

Tell me if I'm wrong but it looks like the one disc didn't get the final machining

So I have emailed EBC direct as the online company probably won't know what I'm on about, but could be easily sorted by them opening the boxes before dispatch and checking the colour of the centres and putting a vernier gauge
across the discs !

Very annoying and time wasting , so don't know how to get a result here

Hi Martin,
EBC or Chinese knockoffs?
Which supplier did you get them from?
Cheers

They are EBC genuine from Demon Tweeks who have been very helpful
We both emailed EBC technical department today and must say they didn't exactly show much concern
They said to return them to Demon Tweeks for a refund and get them direct from them, which will be a third time I have tried to get some bloody discs !

They don't seem bothered at all and it will be a month since I ordered the first lot

Had another email from EBC and to buy direct from them he was saying £153 each WTF

Demon Tweeks are £120 each

He did offer 10% off though

Unbelievable

I know you are making a dig again Jan Bros

I would have had just as much hassle with a shop
Would have had to order them in , so the same really

Well EBC are sending postage labels to send them back to the factory , then they will send (hopefully) a good set out

Third time lucky !

so glad I read this, was gonna buy a set of KR1 disks from Wemoto, they're EBC's as well and roundabout 300 quid a pair, also saw on another thread someone had got a set from All Bike Engineering which I'v been in touch with today , they can still do CNC'd replacement rotors for around 110 quid each and would expect them to be of good quality steel, a set of bobbins and you're in business, plus for the purists you're still retaining the original disk carriers.

You can have problems with any manufacturer, its the way they deal with them that makes the difference.

Rather than hear it secondhand from me, drop a PM to Mike(kopite30) about the problems he had with ABE and the way they dealt with him...I think his ABE discs are now ornaments in his shed...

you can indeed ,have had my fair share of engineering disappointments over the years, got their name from another post on here about replacement disks and their name was also mentioned by a good friend , will give Mike a wee PM and see what happened as making a mistake in customer order is one thing, not correcting that is another thing entirely, the guy I spoke to today was their surface grinding specialist and definitely made all the right noises, thanks for the heads up on this as I want to make sure that what I'm getting is at least as good as the original if not better, especially so when it comes to ma brakes.

I would have EBC discs again

Upshot of this is that Demon Tweeks who I purchased them off did come good and they contacted EBC direct and then I got in touch
EBC sent postage labels and I posted them back today
They will then send another set directly from EBC to me and hopefully that's that !

Result then, good to hear, that's the way it should be done, will probably go through Wemoto for mine, had good service from them previously, have used EBC brake products in the past and never had an issue, hopefully it's just been a hiccup in quality control.

EBC Front Discs Issue

Post by FannieSmito »

I ordered two sets of EBC FA261HH brake pads for the front from Amazon which I tried to fit today but they wouldn't. It appears to be exactly the same item I'd used for my rear brakes a few months back which went in without a problem. I'm sure I picked up the code from this forum but can't find the post. Amazon says they are suitable for the ST1300. They seem to be slightly shorter and wider than the existing factory ones which are overdue for replacement.

Does the code EBC FA261HH sound right/wrong to anyone?

Thanks,
Rob

Yes those look like the ones on the rear of my h***a scooter. Have a look here as I think these codes are correct.
