It should point to the front of the bike.

Looking at a standard piston there are four drilled holes in the piston body, these are to allow for lubrication, (so i have read) these holes are on the forward side of the piston, in other words they are on the side that faces the exhaust port.

the most important thing with fitting 2-stroke piston's, is the pin that holds the rings

when the piston goes up and down, there must always be metal. if the pin passes a port, the rings will pop out into the port and ruine a perfectly good cylinder :?

normaly, piston's are installed with the pin facing the "rearer" side of the cylinder.

so check where the pin would be when you fit the piston in both positions, and install it the way that most metal is arround the pin area

S'not always the same thing ! My KR tandem-twin had a top-end rebuild by the Kawasaki-trained mechanic who owned it before me, and he put 'em both in pointing forwards....

And don't get me started on my TZR Reverse-Cylinder...
Kawasaki KR250 Tandem Twin (x4) & KS-II 80,
Yamaha RD350LC,
Suzuki GSX-R750RK & RB50 Gag.

I'd be very surprised if that's the right way

I just had a look on your own website, found the parts list, and guess what : check the arrows......

so, in the future, ALWAYS put the arrows towards the exhausts

and before I forget : give your Kawasaki-trained mechanic some descent spanking :?
