As above, this was confirmed to me today by Cradley Heath.

Luckily SKF make a viton 42mm x 25mm x 7mm double lip-ring seal, which I have ordered and will report back once it's tested.

Hi Ian
Do you have the catalogue number for it?
Cheers

I heard back today from Simply Bearings that the Viton seals are on an 18-20 week lead time! But, they have nitrile in stock and offered some of those instead, where as I need one I've taken them up on it (I also ordered a spare).

Let me test the nitrile one first to see how it fairs.

Right, I'm a numpty. I got the dimensions that I originally posted above off t'interweb whilst I was sat in a hotel eating my dinner, where what I should've done is waited until I got home to measure an actual seal. So, I've corrected the actual dimensions above and have ordered the correct seals. I'll give a further update once they arrive.

The original seal is not marked with the dimensions, just the manufacturer's code of NOK BE2817E.

ordinary seals are fine up to 100°C , so no need for Viton's on the gearbox output shaft.

True, though viton were only a couple of quid more....

Simply Bearings called me just after I'd placed the order for the (ahem) correctly-sized seals to tell me that I could send the wrong seals back for a refund even though it was my cock-up. There are some good people around... 8)
