Rear Seat Cowl - ABS Sheet

Hi Guys,]

It has been a while since I have polished anything or undertook any plastics repairs or fabrication, so I thought I would let you have a look at my current project. It is for one of the members here on the forum (my mate John Farley).
I have one of Davey's very nice cast resin set cowls for my 300, but after doing my last lot of extensive plastic repairs to a top fairing, I thought "How difficult could it be to make a seat cowl from scratch"?

Well it turns out that it is not that difficult, but it is bloody time consuming.....

What do you think (3mm ABS sheet)

Not finished yet, as I need to replicate the parts to hold the seat cowl in place and to lock it down using the standard seat unlocking parts.
And then do the final finishing to ensure it flows nicely with the tail unit lines.

Cheers,

Are you going to produce a complete range of ABS KR parts, Bernie? Tail units, side panels, fairings even????

Hi Gerrit,
Perhaps when I retire, I think most parts could be made if you were determined enough to put the time and effort into it.
I have done some extensive repairs to top fairings, bellypans and tail units. Including fabricating large replacement sections from ABS sheet.
I enjoy doing it, when I get a bit of spare time I will upload some photos of what can be done with a bit of time and effort.
Cheers

Nice work Bernie. It looks as if the Beet replica vents should present no problems 8) .

Hi James,
If you have a good photo, so I could gauge the size of the larger vent, I will put it on my to do list.
Cheers Bernie 8)

I don't like the way they bubble outward of the fairling. The rear face of the duct could be brought closer to the sparkplug/radiator in a 90Β° arc

Hi Danny,
Nice photo, I have never seen a close up of one before. Do you think the intention of the larger vent is to redirect the warm air flow from the radiator away from the motor and rider, or to increase the low pressure behind the radiator to increase the through flow for the radiator? Or a bit of both?
Any more photos or dimensions would be greatly appreciated.
I think I need to buy some more ABS sheet.
Cheers

got any pics of the underside of yours, to see how you glued/formed/welded yours?

idea: router a seat pad mold from MDF (or other). Cut out KR-1 italic logo from your 3mm ABS sheet. Glue it in and paint for release/surface finish. Then cast a PU seat bum stop pad with the KR-1 logo inset into it 8) 8) 8)

I have cut out a couple of inspection cover blanks, I will have a play around making a "Beet type" cover that accommodates the larger radiator that I have fitted.

Got to agree with you Danny, the bulging on the Beet ones looks crap.
