Tyres and wheel sizes F250 question???

Post by maccas »

Hi guys,

Sadly this is not a KR question, this is about my 3xv but I'm hoping its of relevance to the size of wheels that people run in the KR.

Ok my 3xv has a 3.0 X 17 front and a 4.5 X 17 rear wheel as standard.

The standard tyre sizes are 110/70/17 front and 150/60/17 rear.

Do you guys who run the rgv rear wheel run a 160 width rear tyre? I notice the zxr400's have a 4.5 inch rear wheel and they run a 160 as standard so I'm guessing I'd be ok to do the same.

I have just got hold of a set of michelin power one's in the standard size for my bike but when these are knackered I would like to give the pirelli supercorsas a go. I can't get a 110 front but can get the 150 rear in those tyres. 120/160 part worn pairs are common as muck though so it would be good to be able to run those sizes.

Do the people running a 120 front use a 3.5 X 17 front wheel?

Any insights welcome :D This will be for spirited trackday use mainly.

Cheers,

Dan

Dan, I'm sure Andy Bailey uses 110 in the supercorsa's, I'll check with him on Saturday.

I have a 3.5" front so run a 120, but I find the Supercorsa's slightly narrower in the 160 than the PowerOne's and I run the 160's on an RGV 4.5" no problem.

I suggest you speak to Andy about where he gets his Supercorsa's from and even buy his part worns off him

Part worns are perfectly good for track day use and you only benefit from fresh rubber when you're racing.

I used to run a 120 on my KR1 and TZR with no probs. 150 is fine for a 4.5" so to is 160, although the Michelin SM rear does fit a 4.5", it really needs a 5".
I did notice that the power one (160) was slightly wider than the super corsa (160)
