KR1B coil information needed

Post by kghost »

I'm trying to source a compatible coil for my project.

Could anyone tell me what their resistance is across the primary and seconday windings?

I find the ones in the service manual a bit odd.

If someone could tell me what is stamped/molded on their coil as far a part number or identifying features I might could find an equivalent.

Coil details here

http://www.kawasakioriginalparts.com/ka ... 1990&ca=GB

Also KR Kive at top of the page has lots of links to resources, that may answer your questions.

Im sure Martin (on here) sourced a uk equivalent coil. I bought a second hand one off the bay , it was worse than my original!!

I certainly looked at the service manual ( would be rude to ask if I hadn't )

What's throwing me off is the spec for .28 - .38 ohms on the primary.

Now granted its CDI triggered........

I'm wondering if Kawasaki had a special coil or if it was a vendor item from say... TEk, denso etc

Hence the stamped or moulded in part numbers/markings on the coil itself

just had a look on wemoto website [the coil you want is on page 3 of the ignition coil section, 2nd from the bottom][its the twin lead 90mm hole spacing one] its £39.50[I know its the exact one,as that's whats fitted to my bike]

I see you are in Australia, so if you wanted to sort something with me [bank transfer or similar] I can order it and post it on for you :)
I don't mind helping out :)

Thanks for the offer and the link Martin.

I have a feeling I can source one locally given the correct marking information.

Here's an example of a 3 ohm primary coil of TEK manufacture.......

Does anyone know what the KR1B coil has moulded into it?

Just seen this Martin. I exchanged emails with Andy (at Wemoto) about it recently and he thought it was for a h***a vfr and couldn't quote the specification. However if that's the one you use that's good and I can go ahead and get one for my KR1-S. You may be able to answer this for me - do the various model types of CDI only differ in respect of mounting holes/lugs etc but internally are all the same or are they 'matched' (in some way) to the CDI?
