Rear caliper jamming ??

Post by headcoats »

Noticed today my rear disc was discoloured as in got overheated at some point.
The caliper isn't stuck on and you can see the pistons retract when you let the footbrake off but one thing i have noticed that of the the 2 sliding pins the one facing to the front doesn't hardly move :?
It's like the rear pin moves about and that is doing all the movement
Any clues

Just been looking at the online manual and it could be the anti rattle plate stopping the caliper from sliding :-k

Does anyone have pics of how the anti rattle spring fits ?

Looks like had had the same problem a while back
It has worked fine for 2 years and only reared it's head the last week or so,the only thing i have done is change the fluid

take the pads out, and you should be able to move the caliper by hand.

if not -> sliding pin(s) stuck
if -> check piston's/retaining plate/pads/...

Had a look today and nothing was seized but i re greased the pins and the caliper slid in and out nicely but when i pumped the pistons out again,it appeared to jam again 8-[
Went round the block and it was hot again where the front discs were cold ](*,)

The wheel is turning fine
With the pistons pushed into the body i can slide the caliper in and out on the pins but as soon as i pump it,it jams again
Normally on these calipers you can rattle them a bit but that has gone now

My guess is that not all the fluid is returning to res when you come off the pedal.
You say this only happened after you changed the fluid.
My guess is that a bit of shite has partially blocked the return hole on MC and it is this that's not allowing all the fluid to return to the reservoir.

but you can push harder, than the rubber rings in the caliper can

Seems to have righted itself 8-[
After every ride i just pushed the pistons back then pumped them back by hand

Do people use aftermarket brake seals on their calipers,is there a reputable supplier ?
I did use all genuine in this build though
