Check your Brake Arm Fixing Bolts

Just a reminder to all, to check the bolt that holds the rear caliper to the braking arm that runs on the underside of the swingarm, CHECK IT. I know that this might seem stupid but I have had a KR1 for a month now and the other day,while braking hard into a tight right hander, the bolt snapped. The caliper rotated to the top of the swingarm, snapping of the bleed nipple, bent the disk( i dont know how but it did)and at the same time ripped the brake line in half. Nearly got highsided big time. Luckily I was only 2 kays from home so I limped the bike home for urgent repairs and a change of underwear. Ive never heard of this before, but Im letting you know, in the hope that it doesn't happen to you guys.

Sounds like what happened mine. It had a broken off bleed nipple on rear caliper and I was wondering how it happened

i reckon use stainless steel bolts with locknut

But make sure they are high tensile

Sounds bad

I'm fitting the KR1S front and rear to my LC
Is this a known problem and is there a stronger bolt to fit ?

A decent high tensile stainless bolt will be fine. Its a known problem is as far as any bolt can, after years of use, break. Its just one of those things worth keeping an eye on and/or replacing when you next strip something in that area of the bike.

another way round the problem is not to use the back brake

I only ever use it in the paddock or for stoping on the start finish line at the start of a race. Have had to use it once or twice when I've over cooked a corner but that's about it.

only thing with not using it , is when it comes to the MOT, and the
mechanic presses his size 12 down with all his might and it binds for
the trip home
