r6 rear shock adjustments

Post by andy b »

i am doing the r6 shock conversion and have knackered the top shock absorber bush so i need a new one, does anyone know where i can get one as yamaha dealers say the bush does not come seperate from the shock, or would it be easier and cheaper to take the rear r6 shock to an engineering shop and get them to ream the top shock mounting hole out and just fit the standard Kr1s bush in it?

I'd prbably do it that way if you can get a new KR1S bush from kwak. Otherwise you still need to get a pair of spacers made up as the R6 bush is slightly narrower from memory.

OK, I stuffed up a bit there since I was only working from memory.
The R6 top bush is actually 2mm wider than the KR bush. #-o
The spacer/spacers (2mm total) are required at the bottom where it bolts to the KR knuckle.

An interesting thing I noticed while comparing the 2 shocks is that the spring on the R6 should be stiffer than the standard KR spring, as the R6 uses thicker wire (yet most people seem to say it's too soft). Of course this is only theory, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Cheers, Scott.

it's not so much the thickness that determines how hard a spring is, but the number of turns (windings ?)

Yeah, they have the same number of windings too.
Got me buggered how it can be softer. :?

I'm no metallurgist but I'm fairly sure there are lots of different ratings for spring steel; so a thinner spring can be stiffer.
Need Break down cover? P.m. me.

if my memorie is right, there is only one type of spring steel.

another thing that could cause the R6 shock to be softer (even though it could have a stiffer spring), is that because off it's length, the link works different
