RGV USD forks modification

The standard RGV vj22 USD forks don't have adjustable damping, but it seems that adding adjustable rebound damping can be achieved by replacing the fork caps with fork caps from, say, a GSX-R750. This woud be a fairly straightforward mod; has anybody done that?
Adding adjustable compression damping would be a very different matter as at the very least it would require machining of the lower forks to accept the required fittings.

I'd look out for more recent forks to put in, it's a much better then trying to upgrade old stuff.

ZX6R '04 forks were a massive improvement over the original ZXR400's in my ZXR4/600

Thanks for the tip, Jan, but I would rather modify the RGV forks if possible. First, I already have them. Second, I don't want to use four-stroke parts if I can avoid it- I already have ZXR400L fork yokes lined up and that's bad enough! Their saving grace is that at least they are Kawasaki bits.
