KR1-S swingarm fitting

Post by DougB »

Refitted my swingarm, just loose assembled and the pivot bolt nipped up, and found the swingarm has just over a mm left to right side play. Stripped it back out and measured the bits. The swingarm bearing sleeve that the frame tightens onto is just under 2mm narrower than the frame. Now I guess this gap nips up when the pivot bolt is really torqued up but I hate stressing alloy like that.

Firstly, am I missing any shims? can't see any on the parts diagram. Or has anyone come across this before and shimmed the gap out?

if it's 2mm or more, I'd shimm it.

Thanks for the reply Jan, did just that and put a 1mm shim in.

I Tried it without, just put the bearing tube between the frame and tightened the swingarm bolt up, the torque setting is 93Nm and the bearing tube was still slack at 80Nm and only just gripped as the torque wrench clicked at 90ish. Didn't like that at all, most of the tension in the bolt is just crushing the frame mount. With the shim in the bearing tube was gripped at 30Nm and it felt better so I'm happy at that.

They were like that out of the factory. Great bikes but some quality issues :D
